Joint Press Release: SAS, SIAS and SGX to launch Youth Stock Ambassadors Programme empowering next-generation investors

Date: October 5, 2026

This initiative comes as Singapore’s ecosystem takes steps to broaden retail participation alongside reduced board lot sizes to lower entry barriers for young investors

SINGAPORE, 5 October 2026— The Securities Association of Singapore (SAS), Securities Investors Association (Singapore) (SIAS) and SGX Stock Exchange (SGX) announced today a new Youth Stock Ambassadors Programme (YSAP), a joint initiative to support young investors on their investment journeys with capital market education, practical exposure and opportunities to engage with Singapore’s capital markets ecosystem.

This programme comes as board lot sizes are reduced for 11 selected securities on SGX, with effect from today. Together, these initiatives lower the barriers to entry for investing, arm the younger investors with more information on the Singapore stock market, and provide them the opportunity to access higher-value Singapore stocks with smaller amounts of initial capital.

A youth-led platform, the YSAP is open to tertiary students with an interest in capital markets and investing. For a start, SAS and SIAS, supported by SGX, will actively engage the SIAS Youth Chapter to gather feedback and co-create the programme. Selected Youth Stock Ambassadors will receive capital market education and training, opportunities to engage with listed companies, as well as internships and mentorship. They will also develop analytical, research and content creation skills. The programme aims to build a community of informed investors who can help inspire and support the next generation on their investment journeys.

With the positive momentum in the Singapore stock market, SAS members will work closely with SIAS to increase engagement with young investors, not just through the YSAP but also various member-specific initiatives. Along with reduced board lot sizes, the YSAP draws on the respective strengths of the three organisations to make the stock market more accessible and equip young investors to participate with confidence.

Wilson He, Chairman, SAS said: “The reduction in board lot sizes is a positive step towards making Singapore equities more accessible, but it is only part of the equation. It must be complemented by investor education, access to quality research, mentorship, internship opportunities and practical market exposure. Through the Youth Stock Ambassadors Programme, we hope to empower young investors with the knowledge, confidence and support needed to become informed, long-term participants in Singapore’s capital markets. SAS member brokerages are also committed to supporting the reduced board lot rollout through their own investor education and outreach initiatives.”

Ang Hao Yao, Vice President, SIAS, said: “We are delighted that SIAS and SAS, supported by SGX, will be rolling out a new initiative to connect the young investors to the Singapore stock market and listed companies.  For young investors, they may be overwhelmed by available information, and they should build a set of strong foundation on their investment principles and knowledge. For many, the amount needed to get started on investing in Singapore stocks can be a real barrier. With the launch of reduced board lot sizes, it lowers the entry point by making the Singapore market more approachable and creates an opportunity to build sound investing habits earlier.”

Ng Yao Loong, Head of Global Financial Markets, SGX Group, said: “Building the next generation of investors goes beyond making Singapore equities more accessible. The Youth Stock Ambassadors Programme provides opportunities for young investors to engage with listed companies and market practitioners, helping them build informed investing habits and a longer-term perspective.”

Tay Jingxuan, Executive Committee Member, Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) Investment and Commerce Club, said: “The lot size reduction is a timely opportunity for students and young adults to begin their investment journey early. While many young individuals recognise the importance of early investing, capital constraints often pose a significant barrier. For many students, setting aside a few thousand dollars to start building positions in blue-chip stocks can be difficult, given our limited savings and inconsistent part-time income. The lot size reduction offers both current and new young investors practical exposure to the Singapore market. By lowering the capital requirement threshold, young investors can feel less intimidated about committing a large portion of their personal capital with limited prior experience. Ultimately, it enhances market liquidity for existing investors while lowering the barrier to entry for new investors.”
