SIAS Appoints 3rd Honorary Chairman

SIAS is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, former Minister, as our 3rd Honorary Chairman with effect from 21 October 2013 for a period of 3 years.

She has always shown keen interest in the work we do at SIAS and has a heart for the retail investors. As Chairman of SIAS, she now has the opportunity to work with the Committee to further enhance the work of SIAS in our market place. SIAS stands to benefit enormously from her knowledge and vast experience in the finance and securities industries.

She takes over from Mr Hsieh Fu Hua, our 2nd Honorary Chairman, who during his term had given support and guidance to the Management Committee. During his tenure, SIAS launched new initiatives like Singapore Investment Week, SIAS Investment Guide Book and internationalisation of our corporate governance programme by adopting OECD standards in rating listed companies for their corporate governance practices. SIAS received keen interest from international organisations like OECD, IMF and the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committed of the European Parliament on our work.

Mrs Lim Hwee Hua is currently an Executive Director of Tembusu Partners Pte Ltd, a Senior Advisor to Kohlberg, Kravis & Roberts, an Independent Non-Executive Representative of the Ernst & Young Global Advisory Council, and a non-executive director of Jardine Cycle & Carriage Ltd and Stamford Land Corporation Ltd.

In 1981, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua graduated in Mathematics/Engineering from the University of Cambridge. In 1989, she obtained a Master of Business Administration (finance major) from the Anderson School of Management, UCLA.

Mrs Lim Hwee Hua was first elected to Parliament in Dec 1996 and served till May 2011, last as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Singapore, and concurrently as Second Minister for Finance and Transport. Between Apr 2002 and Jul 2004, she was Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.

Prior to joining the Singapore Cabinet, at Temasek Holdings (2000 – 2004), she served as Managing Director for divestments, corporate governance and strategic relations with key foreign counterparts. At Jardine Fleming (1992 – 2000), she was first Head of Singapore Research and then Director of Business Development. At Swiss Bank Corporation (1989 – 1992), she was an Investment Analyst for both Singapore and Malaysia. From 1981 to 1989, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua served as an Administrative Officer in the Ministries of Finance, Education and Law.
