SIAS confers Distinguished Honorary Member to Mr Liew Mun Leong
SIAS is pleased to announce that Mr Liew Mun Leong, President and CEO of CapitaLand Group, has kindly accepted SIAS’ invitation to be its Distinguished Honorary Member. Mr Liew now joins the two other Distinguished Honorary Members – Mr JY Pillay, Chairman of Singapore Exchange Ltd, and Mr Lim Chee Onn, Senior Advisor of Keppel Corporation Limited and Chairman of Singbridge International Singapore Limited.
SIAS has named Mr Liew a Distinguished Honorary Member in recognition of his support for transparency to shareholders and the investing community, including retail investors in Singapore. His appointment is by virtue of clause 4.2 of SIAS constitution which reads:
“The Management Committee may invite persons distinguished in public life or who have made significant contributions to the Securities Industry or to the Association to be Honorary Members for such period as it shall deem fit. An Honorary Member shall not be required to pay any entrance fee or monthly subscription but shall be entitled to enjoy all the facilities of the Association. An Honorary Member shall not have the right to vote or hold office as a member of the Management Committee”
“Distinguished Honorary Members play an important role for SIAS, besides being supporters of the cause of retail investors in Singapore, they also assist SIAS by providing advice and guidance ensuring relevance in today’s market environment,” David Gerald, President and CEO, SIAS.
CapitaLand and Mr Liew have supported SIAS since its inception, including SIAS’ investor education activities. Mr Liew said: “It is an honour to be named a SIAS Distinguished Honorary Member. CapitaLand consistently maintains a high level of investor access and we are committed to being transparent to shareholders and the investing community. In particular, we have been committing more time and resources to cater to the growing pool of retail investors.”
In 2009, CapitaLand was the winner of the Most Transparent Company (Property Category) in the SIAS Investors’ Choice Awards for the ninth consecutive year. CapitaLand was also named “Overall Best Company in Singapore” and “Best for Disclosure and Transparency in Singapore” in Asiamoney’s Corporate Governance Poll 2009.
To date, SIAS has run some 600 programmes with over 50,000 investors attending investor education seminars and workshops. “This would not have been possible without the strong support of the community and listed companies, like CapitaLand, who continue to support our activities to continue educating retail investors,” says Mr David Gerald.
