“The more that things change, the more they stay the same’’
Good morning, Mr Michael Syn, President, SGX Group, Mr Ng Yao Loong, CFO SGX Group, Mr Tan Boon Gin, CEO, Singapore Exchange Regulation, ladies & gentlemen,
Welcome to this Securities Market Opening session. I am indeed honoured that SGX has arranged this session especially for SIAS and would like to thank the exchange for its recognition of SIAS’s efforts in helping develop the local capital market.
The latest buzz-phrase in the investing world today is “Artificial Intelligence’’ or AI for short and I have no doubt that this new technology will have a profound impact on the investing landscape whilst simultaneously creating many new opportunities for retail investors.
SIAS has always tried to move with the times, constantly adapting our approach towards helping retail investors when required. We therefore stand ready to continue our close collaboration with SGX and SGX RegCo in equipping the retail public with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in this fast-changing, AI-influenced world.
However, although SIAS recognises that our investor education programmes need to be expanded – something which we will do – we are reminded of the wisdom in the saying that “the more that things change, the more they stay the same’’.
Products and technology may become vastly more sophisticated, but the basics of investing will always remain the same as they’ve been for decades – investors should do their homework, study the fundamentals, practise diversification and avoid investing based on rumours and hearsay. These are the core principles which underpin our courses, and this will not change.
In this regard, SIAS looks forward to working with SGX on our various joint educational initiatives as well as with SGX RegCo on maintaining a high standard of corporate governance in our stock market.
With that, I would like to once again thank SGX and SGX RegCo for their support for SIAS all these years and for arranging this occasion for SIAS.
Thank You
